As part of the Qatar University (QU) Library’s efforts to document, preserve and provide access to historical events that occurred in the past in the State of Qatar, the Library team successfully conducted a rich interview with Dr. Mustafa Aqil - Professor of Modern and Contemporary History of the Gulf States.

Dr. Aqil was born in the old Fereej Al-Ghanim area in Doha on October 25, 1949, and lived there during the 50s, where his father was the Imam of the Abu Al-Qubeib mosque. Dr. Aqil had a similar life to the community of the area as he studied at school and moved to study in a religious institute for a preparatory and secondary school. Dr. Aqil graduated and worked in the teaching sector at Rawdat Rashid School and Othman bin Affan School, then studied on his own at Al-Azhar University and specialized in history. He received his master's degree from Ain Shams University and then worked as a Professor and published several books dealing with the Gulf region and Qatar.

The interview with Dr. Aqil was held at Qatar University Library, and was an accomplishment and a valuable addition to the project. The Library noted that this interview is part of its expanding in the oral history project where prominent figures and key individuals who had experienced historical events and have contributed to the history of Qatar are being interviewed.
