Q: What are the Library opening hours?

 

Regular Working Hours: Sundays Thursday 7:30 am - 10:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 - 3:00 am Hours are based on QU Academic Calendar, The library is generally closed on all State of Qatar holidays, and official University holidays. The library may operate under reduced hours during mid-term, spring and summer holidays from 7:30 am -2:30 pm

Q: How do I join the Library?

 

• If you are a QU Faculty, staff or student with a valid QU Card, then you are eligible to use the Library.


• If you are an Alumni , a valid Alumni card from the Alumni Club is needed to check out books.


• If you are a visitor, you can apply for a membership form to obtain a library card at the Public Services Librarian's Office, QU Library. Check the list of Alumni and External Users for additional information on membership categories and fees.

Alumni and Visitors with valid membership cards may search selected online databases and download articles within the premises of the Library

3 audio-visual materials (CD, DVDs ) can be checked out 7 days students, and Faculty members.

Library material such as cassette, micro-format, kit,thesis,maps, and manuscripts are for in-library use only.

Q: How do I renew an item?


You can renew the books two days before the due date.

Going personally to the circulation desk

Electronically through library catalog


Q: Pay fines?


To pay library fines for lost or damaged book fees, go to the Circulation Desk on the Ground floor in the Female Library and 2nd floor in the Male library Only cash is accepted. Q: How do I Place a Hold request on an item?


Hold is a request by a user to be the next borrower when an item is returned.Users can request a book to be on hold via phone or at the circulation desk.

A Hold Arrival Notice will be sent to patron once the book is checked-in at the Circulation Desk, and will be reserved for 3 days, after which the item will be re-shelved if not picked up


Q: How do I find information on a subject?


Use our Lib Guides to find information on a subject. We have over 20 Lib Guides that have tabs that will help you find books, journals by title, articles in databases and citation help for your papers. Go to LibGuides or click on Library Guides in the right side menu above.


Q: Can someone show me how to research a topic?

Q: What electronic resources are available to me?


The Library currently subscribes to over 50 online databases that cover many subjects and areas. To look for an article, start with databases. Many contain full-text articles and e-books. You can find a list of our electronic resources along with a link to our Lib Guides on the E-Resources webpage.


Q: Can I access electronic resources from off campus?


Access to many of the resources on the QU library website is restricted to currently registered students, faculty and staff. When accessing a library resource from outside the university students, staff and faculty are prompted to enter their QU email username and password to gain access.for more information about accessing E-Resources


Q: Are there computers I can use in the Library?


Public computers are available in both Male and Female Libraries for all QU community (Faculty, Staff, Students,). They can be used to search the library catalog, all e-resources, the internet, they can be used for checking emails, using word-processing, spreadsheets, etc… There are dedicated computers allocated for visitors.For more information check with the Circulation staff.


Q: How Do I Photocopy/print inside the library?


Users are allowed to photocopy library materials ONLY without violating copyright law, (10% of the book, or one chapter, or articles from periodicals). Photocopying and Printing services are provided by the Student Services at a very competitive rates

Photocopying is available from Sunday – Thursday
Female Library: 1st floor in Room 201 from 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Male Library: 2nd Floor in Room 301 from 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Q: How Can I obtain items that are not held by the Library?


Yes, you can obtain material not available in the library collection, from other libraries or British library through the Inter library Loan service/ Document Delivery service. Information about how to use this service available on the Inter library Loan in the library services web page.

You can also suggest a purchase of the new item


Q: Can I Borrow from other Libraries?


Inter Library Loan If QU Library does not have the book you need, submit the online book request form and we will try to get it for you within Libraries in Qatar.
