Borrowing from Non-QU Libraries

Borrowing from Non-QU Libraries

The Interlibrary loan (ILL) service allows library users to borrow books from non-Qatar University libraries and it lends books to Non Qatar University Libraries located in Qatar and  having an ILL agreement . This service is available to Faculty, Staff, Graduates and Undergraduates enrolled in the University.

Interlibrary loan (ILL) requests for books not owned by QU Library may be made through the ILL/DDS at QU Library. ILL services are available at no charge to Faculty and Graduate Students.

This service is NOT extended to special borrowers, alumni/ae, external guests and all individuals who have a membership with the Library.
The average time required to obtain material through ILL is about two days. All books ordered can be picked up at the QU Library Circulation Desk during library Hours. When materials arrive, notification is sent via e-mail.

Please note that some libraries require that the materials they lend be used within the borrowing library only—and some do not allow photocopying. The ILL notification will specify if this is the case. The borrower should not let others use the books received on interlibrary loan unless special arrangements have been made with the ILL office.

The loan period for materials borrowed from other libraries is set by the lending library and is indicated on a band placed on borrowed items. In the interest of maintaining good working relationships with lending libraries, due dates must be honored. All borrowed items should be returned to the QU Circulation desk.

If a renewal is necessary, you may submit a renewal request through the ILL department at the Library. If a renewal request is rejected by the lending institution, the ILL office will contact you.

Interlibrary Loan protects "each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted" as written by the American Library Association's Code of Ethics.
