QU signs MoU’s with three Russian Universities during the SPIEF 2021 Conference in Russia

Qatar University (QU) signed several MoU’s with prominent universities in Russia on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2021) in Russia, in the fields of scientific research, education and culture.

QU signed separate agreements with three universities. The first agreement, with Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) aims to establish academic and research cooperation between the two institutions aimed at the development of internationalization in education, including development of academic mobility, extension of cultural links, mutual educational and research activity. The MoU came as a culmination of many on-going and future collaboration in social sciences, humanities and gulf studies.

QU also signed a MoU with the Saint-Petersburg University (SPBU) aiming to develop scientific and academic cooperation in areas of mutual interest between colleges of business and economics at both institutions, and aims to promote and conduct joint scientific and academic activities, publication of papers, journals, textbooks and tutorials, organization of seminars, conferences, and other joint projects, including student exchange.

In addition, QU signed a third agreement in the field of Law with the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) to cooperate in various formats (in-person, online and/or blended), for academic exchange among students and faculty, developing and implementing joint educational programs, collaborating in publication, conducting joint research and organizing and implementing joint education events.

The signing was attended by QU President Dr. Hassan Al-Derham and senior officials of the universities, MSU Rector Prof. Acad. Viktor Sadovnichy, SPBU Rector Prof. Nikolay Kropachev and HSE Rector Dr. Yaroslav Kuzminov.

QU President Dr. Hassan Al-Derham commented saying, “We are grateful for the opportunities this forum has presented to us and to collaborate with leading universities in Russia who share with us common goals in the fields of education, research, science and culture. These collaborations will open up opportunities for our students and faculty, drive research, boost innovation and strengthen ties with Russia, with whom we have a rich relationship. I am optimistic that our participation in this forum will prove fruitful through establishing mutually beneficial and productive collaborations.”

QU is part of a delegation of 500 individuals from Qatar attending the four-day forum in Russia. The main theme of the forum is 'A Collective Reckoning of the New Global Economic Reality.' Over the last 24 years, the forum has become a leading global platform for members of the business community to meet and discuss the key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world as a whole.
